My Spring Residency
One of my goals for 2026 was to attend an artist residency. An artist residency is a structured program, often hosted by organizations, museums, or foundations, that provides artists with dedicated time, space, and resources to live and work away from their daily routines. The application process for residencies is lengthy, and the competition for selection is worldwide. One well-known and prestigious residency in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina is held at Wildacres Retreat. After speaking with my team and several artist friends, I decided to apply. The application process was detailed and extensive, and the competition spanned the globe. There were more than 300 applicants, and I am proud to say that I was one of the artists selected.
My week-long residency took place in April. I packed my art supplies, food, coffee, and everything I would need for the week. My objective was to make significant progress on four paintings during the residency. With several exhibitions coming up in May and June, it was the perfect opportunity to work uninterrupted for hours at a time. I stayed alone in a cabin in the mountains with my painting supplies. The solitude was fantastic, and it gave me the opportunity to experiment with techniques I had not used very often.
I am happy to share the following photos taken during my residency, along with the paintings that resulted from this work.
